Requirements for a moving image
product
Pre-Production
Process
The Pre-Production is
one of the most important pieces of work that must be done when making a moving
image production. Without this crucial step making the product would be chaos
as nothing would be done as people would not know what to do and where to go.
As well as general management, in the pre-productions exists
paper work that must be done before we could start making the moving image
product. we had to get location leases, so we could use certain areas around
the college area along with this we had to do a risk assessment that was tied
to the paper work meaning that we would have to see what could happen to us
whilst filming and jot them down. We also had to do a script for the product as
this is one of if the not most important part in making of a moving image
product as it will include the actions that person should do in that shot.
Types of
production
The types of production that me and my team produced was a
2minute short film and it was based around a news report about a string of
violent murders and then turning out that the murderer was the anchor man, our
short is meant to be a comedy/ edgy comedy as how the way the people deliver their
lines adding a comedic timing to the scene, we then put it up on YouTube for
our distribution method as it was the easiest way to get it up on the internet
and not only being easy but the most effective way of uploading it as it would
reach more people because the majority of this generation spend most of there
time on the internet and our short film being on YouTube it will be seen by
many.
The other types of moving image product are Film, TV and
music videos, these will be all be distributed in their own ways. For example, films
would normally be shown at cinemas and at early screenings then go to DVD, but
then you’ve got some films that go straight to DVD. Just to name one this year
would be “DOOM Annihilation” to name one of the many and this is normally down
to it not getting enough money or attention at screenings, TV productions
normally get shown on certain channels that helped produced it or the producers
have paid certain channels to “Air” it if they are a more independent film
companies. Music videos are usually released on albums, these albums are
usually accompanied by big named publishing companies and then later are shown
on music channels and then on streaming net works such as YouTube music and
Spotify. Smaller music group such as YouTube music groups must rely YouTube
itself to show the videos off.
Sources of
finance
In our Depict short film. We didn’t have to use any money as all
our props and equipment was provided by the college itself, but we were told
that we had a budget of around £20 to go towards costumes and props for our
shorts.
In the big industry. Most films are funded by big production
companies giving out budgets of about $100million to big titles such as
Avengers, Spider man. This is because production companies such as Warner
Brothers, Paramount studios and Lions Gates are only in it for money and they
give these budgets away as they know that they can make the money back. Another
way some films are made is by crowd funding this is when they put the film on a
website like GoDaddy or Kickstarter and then put a target up of how much they
want for it and a deadline for when they need the money, they also normally put
a small clip of it to try and drag people along. Self-funding films such as
Blair Witch Project was self-funded as it had a small budget but has now
engrossed over a million Dollars since it came out.
Requirements
In our short Depict
film we didn’t have to spend any money on props or costumes mainly because the
college provided all our equipment. But what you might have to spend your money
on would mainly be props cameras and set design.
In the industry they
would get a massive budget this is so that they can spend money on props as
they would need these props to give the film character, this is seen in
superhero films i.e. DC films and Marvel comics as they rely on the costumes to
give the actors clear links to the hero’s they are playing, set design is also
a big part in films as it sets the scene and makes the film look iconic to the
film for example if you were doing a zombie or apocalypse films you’d want a
decollate setting and if you wanted a happy film like Alice in wonder land you
would want a nice colourful
Time
The production time
for our depict film took a week of filming and about another weak to edit the
whole thing together.
In the industry time
limits are crucial as they are set for a reason. They are set because when they
contact filming equipment and filming locations, they have to stic to the set
schedule as some areas are only leased for a certain amount of time and if they
go over that time limit it can really impact that films reputation. Actors are
also given to that film for a certain amount of time and going over that
allocated time limit can cause problems as they may have to go and film another
film making it harder or impossible to finish filming the film you are making.
Personnel
In our small group
of four we had 3 people acting and one person doing the sound design, this was
because out camera guy felt he could handle doing most of the work.
In TV they have
small crew for them as they aren’t going be a huge amount of production, this
is clear in soap operas like Holly oaks, East Enders as they take a little
while to make and they still have to make all the sets and sometimes have to
build sets in actual area like one season finally that contained a train crash
that had to happen on a set location
in movies they would
have huge amount of people working one the movie all sharing the roles, the
camera guys would be composed of camera operators and sound guys, these guys
would oversee making sure the sound equipment was fully operational and working.
One exception I could think of would be The Blair Witch Project which was all
made with a small crew as they had a very small budget and that’s why they used
a handheld camcorder and a public area, so they didn’t have to play anymore
money for certain locations
Facilities
Materials
The materials we
used in our short film was a few costumes such as my suit jacket and tie and my
mask to my knife we used. We also had to use a green screen room only for the
opening shot and the closing shot, we also had to use the Gorleston park as it
was also an open public area and was really close in front of the college
In the mainstream
media they need to rent large areas in cities to make the scene feel big
important. They also need to have costumes, so they can show who is who, this
is seen in big main media productions like marvel or DC films that star iconic
super heroes or villains as well as that they need weapons to match them as
well.
