Grimdark Treatment
Logline: A lone soldier must make his way back to friendly lines but makes an unforeseen ally, that causes the both to be put in grave danger of annulation from a dogmatic leader leading to the two fighting for their lives.
We start our story on an Imperial Guard drop ship just entering a planet’s atmosphere; the screen shaking as the lights flicker in the unloading area, one man is singled out among all the rest, slightly smaller than the rest. After landing they disembark and line up to get their gear, A large man roughly about 10ft tall looking down upon the new lackies, focusing on the smaller one he smiles and walks right up to him and asks, “You’re rather small for a Soldier.” In a rather sarcastic tone, the soldier stands upright and salutes the figure seeing the inquisitorial “I” all over his silver shining armour the Inquisitor bellows in his deep booming voice “I see great things for you soldier.” A few hours past as the main company have now entrenched themselves around the Hive city [massive cities holding untold billions] they make ready to charge as the Commissars blow their whistles hard ringing in the men’s ears the commissars yelling to charge over the lines. The young soldier jumps over Lazgun fire and bullets flying past his head. Then *BOOM* a ginormous explosion knocking our soldier into a crater his head hitting on a rock, knocking him out cold.
He awakes after several hours or days it’s hard for the soldier to tell, his head throbbing, his vision blurry. He stumbles and clumsily crawled out managing to get a bandage in his head to stem the bleeding, he wanders his way to a blown-out building, he falls through an open window falling about 6 feet and landing with a thud. He is surprised by a comforting warmth. The soldier looking up seeing an Eldar Foreseer [Aka Space Elves] he pulls out his pistol and aims it at the alien female, she flinches cowering in fear for her life. She says in a soft calm voice “No, please” the soldier seeing her cower from his actions, lowers his weapon seeing that she too is also hurt; her amour shattered as blood leaks out of the cracks in her amour. After slowly making his way too her, pulling out some gel. He smothers it in the bleeding crack a small sizzling sound can be heard coming from the wound. She winces a small bit. After resting for a bit both got to talking mostly about who started the war and why they’re fighting then getting too notice that they aren’t that different soon coming to an agreement, to get each other out of here safely with each other.
The sun then rises over the Hive city, rays beaming through the cracks in the building causing our two souls to awake. They both sit up stretching; aching bones cracking as they do, both expelling a satisfied “Ah” as they do. Taking time to fully awake the two of them climbing out of the ruined building…then being greeted by a literal bloody battlefield; the smell of iron and gun power was thick in the air, the mist slightly pink from the evaporating blood the caked the ground. They walk past the smouldering wrecks of tanks. After leaving the area they see a commissar command post, it was mostly scorched but a map on the table with a circle around a large line labelled “forward base “new.”” The soldier smiled wide at the sight of a forward base only 3 days travel from where they are. The Eldar Foreseer not so happy as she knows she’ll have to sneak past the line of men.
Undenounced to the human and alien girl Inquisitor Dark Hammer watches from orbit angry as he had only seen great promise in that small soldier, he wanted to see reason for why he would be helping the Eldar but alas the Inquisitor must do his duty. Immediately Dark Hammer ordered a penal squad to dispatch the soldier turned heretic. The soldier and the girl had made it some miles as they hear a drop ship coming in from the distance knowing that they didn’t call any re enforcements, both having a sixth sense that something is up so they both ready their weapons knowing what ever comes out of that ship isn’t interested in being friendly.
Soldiers. Much like our imperial soldier. 5 of them but wearing dark grey body armour with white lettering and white skulls on the shoulder and the infamous “I…” realising this the guardsmen realises that they’re now being hunted by the Inquisition. As soon as the Penal Troops lock eyes with our intrepid survivors they immediately start shooting at them; shots bouncing off the walls and burning the area around them. Currently the soldier draws his weapon as he starts returning the fire being a lot more accurate than managing to take the 5 of them. Approaching the Grey troopers, the soldier sees that they’re exactly like his comrades finally coming to the realisation that he is being HUNTED by his own kind.
Seeing this they decided to pick up the pace going from a gentle jog to walk to a jog going through mine fields and past battlefields until coming to another hazard, not a penal squad but Chaos cultist; these heretics were deformed and corrupted humans that had discarded their faith in the man emperor, to place it in the ruinous powers of the chaos gods. With the chaos cultist voice boxes destroyed by warp corruption. After their small skirmish they cross the man-made bridge over the gorge they start making their final waltz to their respected friendly lines.
Now nearing the end of their adventure, the two souls talk about themselves for the short time they have left before they break apart from each other. They discuss why they joined their military the soldier says, “it was apparently their duty to the Imperium of Man, to give my life so we can live free” the Eldar then replying in a joking tone “preserve the remaining species to we can go beyond this galaxy.” Walking but a few miles from the Imperial guard line they hug and shake hands.
But walking away he hears the loud metallic clack of a bolt pistol, turning around seeing his once alive Eldar friend laying face down in a puddle of her own blood, dead. Stepping over her body was Inquisitor Dark Hammer, his face blank of expression looking down at the soldier reciting to him “Pvt Lucium you have been found committing the high act of treason and I sentence you to die” whilst saying this the soldier filling with rage at how he killed his only friend, he aims his Lasgun at Dark Hammer firing wildly shots bouncing of his armour but a shot hitting his face, stinging it and leaving a burnt open wound, running up to the soldier grabbing him by his neck and picking him up slowly crushing his neck. As one last attempt to save himself the soldier pulls out a Krack grenade pulling the pin shoving it in his neck ring Dark Hammer dropping him as he panics trying to pull it out, but it goes off blowing his head off as Dark Hammer falls backwards dead and lifeless. Walking to his dead friend he morns for her loss but then digging her grave with a metal cross in the grave but walking to Dark Hammer spitting on his corpse then walking to his line and re-joining his comrades.
